Wine Bar Open with Flights and Wine of the Week: Alheit Nautical Dawn Chenin Blanc

February 21 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Classic Wine of the Week: Alheit Vineyards “Nautical Dawn,” Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch, South Africa 2022

The Alheit Nautical Dawn Chenin Blanc 2022 is produced from a single vineyard close to the sea in Stellenbosch from extremely low-yield vineyards rooted in the granite soils of Sinai Hill. Winemaker Chris Alheit describes his wines as precise, well-balanced, and true to their origins.

The wine spent nearly a year aging on its lees, developing a velvety texture and a refined structure. Aromas of chamomile, apple, lemon, and honey lead to a vibrant, lively finish and always a bit of salinity.

Awarded 98 points by Tim Atkin, the wine earned high praise from Tamlyn Currin of JancisRobinson.com: “Glorious. Really compelling. Thrilling. I didn’t want to put the glass down.”

Why this is a classic:

South African Chenin Blanc has evolved dramatically over the past two decades, emerging with a confident, distinctive style that balances precision, texture, and freshness. Alheit’s Nautical Dawn stands as one of the modern classics of this movement: a wine that showcases the purity of Stellenbosch fruit and the refined winemaking that has helped define South Africa’s reputation for world-class Chenin.
