Taste Profile
Green apple • white pepper • citrus zest • stone fruit • mineral • crisp acidity

Why this is a classic:

A co-founder of Vinea Wachau, the region’s leading producer association, Prager is known for aromatically complex, precise, and powerful wines with racy acidity. Today, the estate is led by Toni Bodenstein, one of Austria’s most respected winemakers and the son-in-law of Franz Prager.

Ried Hinter der Burg is a south-facing vineyard in the top Wachau village of Weissenkirchen. Its humus-rich soils, mixed with stones from the Danube, produce wines that are mineral-driven, aromatically intense, and marked by freshness. From this site, Prager produces only a Federspiel Grüner Veltliner—a dry style typically between 11.5–12.5% alcohol.

The wine comes from vines averaging 60 years of age and is fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts, preserving the purity of Grüner Veltliner and a clear expression of site.

This is one of the best Grüner Veltliners to try without breaking the bank in our opinion.
