Join us at Blind Bishop for a wine dinner and a seminar with Tenuta Argentiera from Maremma and Bolgheri, the birthplace of Supertuscans. Tenuta Argentiera was founded in 1999 and had great reception since then, gaining high scores from many critics.
We open our seminar with a Franciacorta with historic significance. Berlucchi made the first sparkling wine in the region in 1961, using the traditional method and in 1967, Franciacorta was born. Today, they grow their grapes organically, and age their wines on lees even longer than the Franciacorta DOCG requires.
Then we move onto the Tenuta Argentiera Poggio Ai Ginepri Bianco, a 100% Vermentino by Tenuta Argentiera. This is a good opportunity to taste and learn about Vermentino, a variety that can show a range from a steely minerally character to intensely aromatic, richer and fuller styles.
The three reds that follow are made from Bordeaux varieties from Argentiera’s different properties. The vineyards are among the highest in altitude in Bolgheri and Maremma. While there are no dramatic altitude differences in the area, even a 600ft altitude makes a difference in the heat that the grapes receive due to the cool breezes. In Argentiera’s case, it translates into perfectly ripened grapes but with a freshness gained from the higher acidity.
