The Meseta North module focuses on the wine regions, grape varieties, and Grandes Pagos de España (GPE) producers of north-central Spain.
Meseta North includes some of Spain’s most important inland wine regions, shaped by a continental climate and high elevation. These conditions produce bold, structured red wines, especially from Ribera del Duero and Toro, as well as fresh, expressive white wines such as Rueda.
You will study key grape varieties including Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto del País and Tinto de Toro), along with Mencía and Verdejo, and explore how altitude, climate, and soils influence wine style. The session also examines Garnacha, highlighting its modern renaissance through the elegant wines of Secastilla from DO Somontano.
The tasting features wines from leading Grandes Pagos de España producers located in the region, including Abadía Retuerta, Numanthia, and Aalto among others. You will also be introduced to Fuentes del Silencio, a producer focused on restoring small, old-vine vineyards and producing single-vineyard wines that emphasize site and vine age.

This class is offered in person at Blind Bishop (310 Sunset Ave. Dallas, TX 75208) or remotely via Zoom. For distance learners, 2 oz tasting portions can be provided:
