This Week’s Flights

Blind Flight Challenge

Our blind tasting flight this week features a trio of Tempranillo, Sangiovese, and Grenache.

3 oz pours of Cune Rioja Reserva, Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico, Chateau Courac Cotes du Rhone  - $42 $34

  • Why it’s fun: Tasting side-by-side lets you compare structure and fruit profiles more clearly.
  • For experienced tasters: Try tasting in strict order without going back, to push your palate even further.
  • For beginners: Here are a few clues to get you started:
    • All three show red fruit (cherry, berry, plum, cranberry).
    • Sangiovese: lively, bright red fruit; high acidity & tannins.
    • Grenache (Southern Rhone style): roasted or cooked fruit notes, softer acidity/tannins.
    • Tempranillo (Reserva/Gran Reserva Rioja): dried or muted fruit, sometimes hints of vanilla, dill, or coconut from American oak.
    • All three, made in traditional Old World styles, will also show earthy notes.

Great Finds Flight

In addition to the blind challenge, explore three distinctive wines chosen for value and discovery.

3 oz pours of Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rose, Urlar Pinot Noir New Zealand, Chateau Mangot St-Emilion Grand Cru - $40 $32

This Week’s Classic

Each Saturday we also pour a classic wine by the glass — something you wouldn’t normally see in this format at restaurants.

This week’s feature: Domaine André Brunel “Les Cailloux” Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020.

  • A benchmark Grenache-dominant blend (70% Grenache, 17% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 3% Cinsault).
  • 2020 vintage: highly rated (94 pts James Suckling, 91 pts Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate) and praised for balance and freshness.
  • Traditional style: aged mostly in neutral vessels with only a touch of older oak barrels — no sweet vanilla or spice, just pure fruit and origin.
  • Vines average 60 years old, yielding generous, ripe fruit and remarkable depth.

This wine has been a favorite of enthusiasts and industry insiders for decades, a true expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s stony soils and storied tradition.
